At the beginning of this nation’s history, an oligarchic system was created that only granted freedom to wealthy white land-owning men. This nation was established on the backs of countless slaves and natives. Fast forward to 2017, and now we have an openly bigoted POTUS. Hate crimes in Charlottesville, Virginia, have rocked the nation to its core. Even the term ‘White Supremacy’ is now mainstream thanks to CNN, MSNBC, and Faux News discovering it after the #NaziTinder with Tiki Torches March happened a couple of weeks ago. America has never been a place of true freedom for these groups of people…
- Women of color (especially black cis and trans women)
- LGBTQ
- Muslims
- Jews
- Undocumented migrant workers
- Black People
- Native Americans
- Latinos (Even as some Latinos classify themselves as white)
- Asians (Even as some occupy the so-called model minority status)
- The disabled
- The poor
- Prisoners
Racism and bigotry are as American as apple pie. Prejudice has only adapted and evolved like a virus throughout the years. We have Alt-Reich man-babies waving Nazi flags, who worship Confederate monuments and kill people who believe in equality. #RIPHeatherHeyer. The current POTUS is just being who he told the world he was from the beginning of his career and tenure in politics. But now ‘decent’ white people are up in arms because the man that mostly middle-class white folks voted into high office has proved without a shadow of a doubt that he’s a bigot. Let’s give a special shout-out to the Electoral College, a system created to make slave states equal to free states in national elections to assist in the Trump election.
Racism is so pervasive that folks fail to realize that it is interwoven into every facet of our society. Because even the most indigent white person is better off in America than a black person. (For example, cops have never shot a twelve-year-old white kid in the park while they play with a toy gun). Racism is everywhere. All you have to do is just look close enough.

- The healthcare system
- The justice system
- The school system
- The housing sector
- Pet Adoption
That’s white supremacy, in a nutshell, a nation by white people for white people.
It could be a better country if this nation admitted to our flaws and owned up to our historical atrocities. We have citizens who love to cry out “freedom,” “patriotism,” and “Merica” at the top of their lungs (Shout out to Fox News). A nation that provides basic needs for all its citizens offers complete protection of its citizens under the law and practices full equality is genuinely free. Until the system of racism and bigotry is replaced with a system of justice, then America will genuinely never be the land of free. For now, with the events in Charlottesville and Trump’s reaction to it, is America just being America. So, God Bless America.
