Welcome to the Evolving Man Project’s “Evolved Man of the Week” profiles. Each week, we will highlight an individual who embodies what it means to be an evolved man, famous and non-famous men alike. The world needs to know their stories and deeds. This week’s honor goes to dolly operators and brothers Sahib and Nasir Khan.
In the remote mountainous region in Pakistan, a harrowing incident unfolded that drew the entire nation’s attention. A cable car carrying six children and two adults became stuck in mid-air. However, this terrifying incident resulted in a remarkable display of bravery and resourcefulness as ordinary bystanders stepped up to save lives.
As the rescue of eight people, including six children, from a dangling cable car at almost 900 feet in Pakistan went on, the entire country was gripped with suspense and fear.
The Tuesday, August 22, 2023 operation, described by the Pakistan Army as “very difficult,” lasted more than 10 hours and involved multiple helicopters and local zip line experts.
Sahib Khan and his older brother Nasir volunteered to rescue the remaining seven, having some experience with such things since they ran a cablecar business themselves. They used a zipline to reach the cable car with enough equipment to help the five children and two adults back to solid ground at a time.
While the successful rescue of the eight individuals brought relief and joy, it also shed light on the need for improved safety measures in the region. The Khan brothers and the local community expressed hope that the government would assist in preventing such life-threatening incidents in the future.
Here is Sahib Khan in his own words describing the heroic rescue:
“Our dolly was small, but we were afraid of the load on the zip line. It was a little bit windy and very dark, everything was difficult. But by the grace of God, we were able to bring the second child back down.”
The Khan brothers were ordinary men who were put in an extraordinary situation. They used their skills, expertise, innovation, and a bit of luck to rescue several children and adults from a dangerous predicament. Showing once again that miracles can happen when communities and individuals come together for the greater good. Today, we honor Sahib and Nasir Khan as our Evolved Men of the Week.
