The Evolved Person of the Week: Ki Griffin

Welcome to the Evolving Folks Project’s’ “Evolved Person of the Week” profile. Each week, we will highlight an individual who embodies what it means to be an evolved person, famous and non-famous individuals, alike. The world needs to know their stories and deeds. This week’s honor goes to the LGBTQ+ activist, advocate, DJ, and actor Ki Griffin.

Griffin, an intersex and non-binary actor and advocate, gained recognition for their role in the British soap Hollyoaks and participation in London Trans+ Pride in 2021. Griffin is a QTIPOC creative from East London. They have gained acknowledgment of their active role as a DJ in the queer nightlife scene, where they prioritize their intersectional identity as a non-binary, queer, intersex person of color in their creative pursuits. By serving as a trustee of Intersex Equality Rights UK, they can continue advocating for the intersex community. Their current role is portraying Ripley Lennox, the first non-binary character on British soap Hollyoaks.

Here is Ki Griffin in their own words about the queer representation in British film and television:

“My favourite thing about what I do is that I get to represent a variety of people who are extremely under-represented within the acting industry. As a Black, nonbinary queer from a working-class background, I rarely saw people like myself on TV so getting to be that representation is amazing. I love that I get to tell a story I relate to so strongly through Ripley and hope that really resonates with others, too.”

Ki Griffin is being cheered on by the Evolving Folks Project as they continue to shatter barriers in British TV and film. Today, we honor Ki Griffin as our Evolved Person of the Week.
