The Evolved Man of the Week: Thosh Collins

Welcome to the Evolving Man Project’s “Evolved Man of the Week” profile. Each week, we will highlight an individual who embodies what it means to be an evolved person, famous, and non-famous alike. The world needs to know their stories and deeds. This week’s honor goes to the author, community health educator, and social media content creator, Thosh Collins.

Thosh Collins’ journey began in Salt River, Arizona. His career as a photographer is just one facet of his life. He also serves as a board member for the Native Wellness Institute, a role that is deeply rooted in his personal experiences and cultural heritage. His strength and motivation come from the spiritual and cultural practices of his ancestors. He believes that the practice holds the key to physical durability and strength.

Using this understanding, Collins motivates individuals to embrace and restore their health, contributing significantly to the flourishing wellness movement within Native Country through a holistic and culturally relevant approach. Collins, an Onk-Akimel O’Odham and Haudenosaunee individual, connects the sedentary lifestyle to assimilation. He recalls how his family’s behavior shifted, ultimately causing health problems, even though tribal elders always stressed staying active.

Collins and his colleague Luger founded Well for Culture, a wellness consultancy, in 2014. Their mission was to bring their message to Indigenous communities and schools. When the pandemic hit, they didn’t let it deter them. Instead, they used it as an opportunity to expand their reach through social media, offering fitness advice, recipes, and Indigenous perspectives on holistic health. Their upcoming book, The Seven Circles, due for release in October, is a testament to their dedication. It explores the interconnectedness of spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional health, offering a blueprint for a balanced life that blends Indigenous traditions with Western medical approaches.

Here is Collins in his own words:

“As Native people, we’ve been moving, singing, and dancing synchronously for millennia.”

Thosh Collins, a man whose work is not just about promoting health, but also about preserving culture and inspiring others to do the same. Today we honor Thosh Collins as our Evolved Man of the Week.
