New Year, Same Empire

On January 3rd, 2026, the United States special forces and the DEA captured the Venezuelan president, Nicolas Maduro. Yes, the United States kidnapped a sitting head of state. This is a blatant example of foreign interference in a sovereign nation’s politics. It doesn’t matter what your opinion of President Maduro is. This action flagrantly violates international law.

For the past two centuries, the United States has often launched military operations in Central and South America and the Caribbean. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the US led the Banana Wars, a series of interventions in Central America aimed at protecting US corporate interests. Often under the guise of democracy or stopping the spread of those pesky Commies!

These types of excursions and regime changes destabilized countless Latin American nations and caused the United States’ current immigration crisis. The United States is one of the greatest threats to global peace.

The US has entered its era of unchecked imperialism. There’s no guise of spreading democracy or freedom anymore. It’s a dying empire that will use its waning influence and military might to finish its plunder of the Global South and its European allies, like Denmark. According to the Trump Administration, just like the Venezuelan oil, Greenland belongs to ‘Merica!

This unchecked imperialism isn’t just a problem for nations with vast natural resources and oil. The citizens of the United States are in trouble. It’s not Russia or China violently kidnapping heads of state at this point in history. It’s not China or Russia sending government agency agents out in multiple cities and towns to snatch citizens off the streets or from their homes. When their only crime is being black or brown. Nope, that’s the American government deploying troops and ICE to various cities and towns across the nation. Yes, the United States has invaded so many countries throughout its history that it’s finally invaded itself. USA #1!

In the era of unchecked imperialism, the wars waged will continue to ensure the corporate class can maintain its opulent wealth and total domination of the global population. More of our tax dollars will go toward a defense budget of world-conquest proportions. At the same time, citizens of the United States can’t afford rent, groceries, or healthcare costs. On the flip side, it’s the United States of Poverty for most citizens.

The sad thing is that there is a segment of US citizens who believe they’ll get a share in the spoils of our imperial wars. And one day they’ll get to hang out with Trump at Mar-a-Lago or rub elbows with Rihanna at the Met Gala. They’re just all temporarily embarrassed billionaires. To quote James Baldwin about folks with this mindset.

“People who shut their eyes to reality simply invite their own destruction, and anyone who insists on remaining in a state of innocence long after that innocence is dead turns himself into a monster.”

Yo broke ass ain’t invited to the Met Gala, neither am I.

We are the Fascist States of America. Fascism is “a right-wing political philosophy that believes in the importance of having strong rules, state control, and the prevention of political opposition.” In layperson’s terms, it’s the merger of corporate and state power. The slave trade was a perfect example of this state and corporate merger, and enslaved Africans were the original capital for this capitalist nation.

The US system of Jim Crow inspired the Nazis, and the colonists enacted a campaign of genocide against the native population. These United States of America has always been fascist in its nature. The US has assassinated, spied on, or exiled peace activists, dissenters, or critics of the US empire, like Dr. Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Paul Robeson, and Assata Shakur. All because they dared to challenge the power structure.

In the era of Trump 2.0, cops and ICE agents beat, pepper-sprayed, or even murdered activists and protesters. The state will call those protesters “domestic terrorists” or “black identity extremists” because it has completely ignored their First Amendment rights. But black Americans have known that so-called rights are only privileges. The government can withdraw these rights or not grant them in the first place. Until they passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the US did not legally treat Black people the same as others. After the 1941 Pearl Harbor attack, the government forced Japanese Americans into internment camps. Just ask the natives slaughtered by General Custer and his troops in the 1800s about their rights. Oh, wait, you can’t because they got murked.

Yes, while the US government praises anti-government protesters in Iran, China, or Russia. It criticizes any government crackdown on activists in those nations. This same government will use police and federal agents to repress any dissent violently. This precedent didn’t start under Trump. Things have been this way since day one in the United States—a nation stolen by rich white men, made for rich white men. Nowadays, the country has just added a bit more diversity to its aristocracy.

But because of American exceptionalism, we’ll have a rainbow coalition of Nazis. ICE agents and MAGA come in all different flavors: black, white, Latino, and even Native American. The ideology of white supremacy runs deep in the United States. The empire babies think that bootlicking the powerful, like Trump or Elon Musk, will get them a seat at the table. But as the O.G. comedian George Carlin once said, “It’s a big club and you ain’t in it!

The era of unchecked imperialism abroad will continue with the rise of fascist stateside. The Trump Administration continues to gut the rights of citizens like abortion access, free speech, and the press. Dissenters will continue to be labelled as domestic terrorists, like the Black Panther Party of the 1960s. The Roman Empire declined, but not before its imperial era. The United States has entered that era with the rise of China looming in the background.

A bellicose nation like the United States will violently defend its status as the world’s sole superpower, despite the world being multipolar. Even in its twilight, the United States will fight tooth and nail to keep its global economic power.

In the end, it’s always God Bless America, home of the black slaves, and killer of the native braves.

We’re at the stage where satire and parody are reality.
