Welcome to the Evolving Man Project’s ‘Evolved Man of the Week’ profiles. Each week we will highlight an individual that embodies what it means to be an evolved man, famous and non-famous men alike. The world needs to know their stories and deeds. This week’s honor goes NBA star, philanthropist, activist, businessman, film star, and cultural icon, LeBron James.
James is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is often considered the best basketball player in the world and regarded by some as one of the greatest players of all time. James’ NBA accomplishments are extensive and include four NBA Most Valuable Player Awards, three NBA Finals MVP Awards, two Olympic gold medals, three All-Star Game MVP awards, and an NBA scoring title. He is the all-time NBA playoffs scoring leader and has amassed fourteen NBA All-Star Game appearances, twelve All-NBA First Team designations, and five All-Defensive First Team honors.
Over the years LeBron James has won numerous awards and accolades both, on and off, the court over the years. These awards include being a two-time Sports Illustrated Sports Person of the Year, multi-time ESPY Award winner, and Jackie Robinson NAACP Image Award winner. He has appeared such films as Trainwreck, and More than a Game. Although James most significant accomplishment came with the opening of his new I Promise School which opened in August of 2018 in his hometown of Akron, Ohio.
Despite all of James success on and off the court, he came under fire from the Trump Administration. Even after Trump’s criticism of James, many of his fellow athletes (including fellow NBA legend and icon, Michael Jordan ), celebrities, and #BlackTwitter came to LeBron James defense about his character and impact on his community. James’ hope of his I Promise School is to provide disadvantaged young people opportunities not afforded to him growing up in Ohio.
Here is Lebron James in his own words about the opening of his new school:
“The jitters before the first day of school are real right now!!! Tomorrow is going to be one of the greatest moments (if not the greatest) of my life when we open the #IPROMISE School. This skinny kid from Akron who missed 83 days of school in the 4th grade had big dreams…,”
Today we honor LeBron James has our Evolved Man of the Week.
