Welcome to the Evolving Man Project’s “Evolved Man of the Week” profile. Each week we will highlight an individual that embodies what it means to be an evolved person, famous and non-famous individual alike. The world needs to know their stories and deeds. This week’s honor goes to the co-founder of Mídia Índia, musician, artist, DJ, and climate activist, Eric Marky.
Eric Marky is an indigenous person who belongs to the Terena People of Brazil. Marky was selected to make up the country’s delegation at Youth4Climate, a meeting that brought together 400 young people from 190 countries. The preparatory event took place between the 31st of September and the 1st of October. It produced a document with measures considered a priority by young people to combat climate change.
Marky graduated from Dom Bosco Catholic University in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. He is one of the founders of Mídia Índia, an Indigenous-run communication channel with more than 200 collaborators from all over Brazil. Eric is helping build local communication networks in remote Indigenous regions of Brazil such as the Xingu, Pantanal, and Cerrado. He is also a musician and DJ. He uses music to uplift the struggles of the indigenous people of Brazil. He is a collaborator with many indigenous musical artists across the nation of Brazil.
Here is Eric Marky, in his own words about international indigenous solidarity:
“I and the other indigenous people who were there came from various places, such as North America, Central America, South America, and India, and we all reported similar scenarios: deforestation and illegal exploitation of preservation areas that impact traditional peoples.”
“And this exploration process ends up interfering not only with the traditional peoples who live in these regions, but all over the world”...
For the Brazilian representative, listening to the reports and points of view gives more strength to the need for change, in addition to bringing a sense of collectivity. We feel that we are not alone.”
Today we honor Eric Marky as our Evolved Man of the Week.
