The queen was not a gentle figurehead for many in Britain’s former colonies

“They put people in concentration camps, they murdered people, they tortured people,” he said. “I know she wasn’t involved in the day-to-day decision-making or what the colonial government was doing here, [but] the fact that she was silent about it — never once did she acknowledge it and never once apologized for it.”

Cats Give the Laws of Physics a Biiiiig Stretch

Grey British short hair cat.

The flippy flop happens “surprisingly quick,” says Hanno Essén, a physicist at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, in Sweden, who has modeled the cat righting reflex. Cats can reorient themselves within a couple of feet, kick-starting the process within a fraction of a second. That very impulse helped Essén’s mischievous childhood cat, Moushe, land safely after falling from a window some 40 to 50 feet off the ground.
