France: the struggle surges forward – Macron must fall!

Young people were out in force on Thursday, and huge general assemblies have sprung up in many places. School students mobilised in more than 400 high-schools. University occupations started in 80 universities across the country, including in the traditionally right-wing Paris-Panthéon Assas university, which was blocked for the first time in its history. According to the student unions, 500,000 young students and workers demonstrated nationally yesterday. A large banner emblazoned with “Sorbonne University in Struggle” was carried prominently at the main demonstration in Paris.

Syria’s war began with the 2011 Arab Spring protests that roiled the wider Middle East and toppled governments in Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Yemen. It later morphed into a regional proxy conflict that has seen Russia and Iran back Assad. The United Nations estimates over 300,000 civilians have been killed in the war. Those figures do not include soldiers and insurgents killed in the conflict; their numbers are believed to be in the tens of thousands.

A Colossal Ecosystem Teeming With Life Is Below Earth’s Surface

“For example, scientists do not yet know all the ways in which deep subsurface life affects surface life and vice versa. And, for now, we can only marvel at the nature of the metabolisms that allow life to survive under the extremely impoverished and forbidding conditions for life in deep Earth.”
