Welcome to the Evolving Folks Project’s ‘Evolved Man of the Week’ profiles. Each week, we will highlight an individual who embodies what it means to be an evolved man, famous and non-famous men alike. The world needs to know their stories and deeds. This week’s honor goes to the U.K. racer Callum Smith.
Callum Smith, 24, became a rookie driver in August 2026. He hails from Nuneaton, England. He drives his road car using adaptive technology from the Motability Scheme. Adaptation specialists at Jim Doran Hand Controls enabled Smith to drive with his feet.
Smith has always adapted by using his feet for everything. He eats, types, plays guitar, and even uses his Xbox with his feet. Smith left college for surgery to treat scoliosis. After recovering, he went back and earned a Level 2 qualification in business administration. He initially started an apprenticeship with a signage company and later joined them full-time as a finance assistant.
Outside of work, Smith enjoys sports and has played football for many years. He now plays for the Solihull Moors Foundation, a team in a disability league, after insurance issues stopped him from playing mainstream football. He has always loved motorsport, especially motorbikes, inspired by his grandfather’s passion for the sport.
Smith says he hopes to race at the highest level. First, though, he needs to get a license to compete. To get his license, he must show he can exit the vehicle within 10 seconds in an emergency. He’s still working on mastering this step.
Here is Callum Smith, in his own words, about the experience of racing.
“It sounds silly, but everything kind of becomes quiet,” he said. “The outside noise disappears, and you’re just focused on that next apex that’s in front of you, or that next car ahead that you’re chasing. You kind of ignore everything else.”
