Joe Biden failed the People of Gaza and the World

The nation of Israel was born out of the anti-Jewish Europeans’ need to expel its Jewish population from their respective countries after the horrid events of WWII. The British Empire created the State of Israel in the lands of Palestine. There was no input from the indigenous people whose homeland it has been for thousands of years. Israel’s political philosophy finds its roots in the ideology of Zionism. The creation of this ethnoreligious state is a continued part of the West’s global settler colonial project.

For well over 70 plus years, Israel has evolved into one of the world’s most infamous apartheid states. Sadly, the West and the United States, in particular, have been Israel’s most significant and most extended ally. They are supplying the rogue nation with weapons of war. The political group AIPAC wields tremendous influence over U.S. politics. Elected officials who don’t pledge undying support to a foreign government in Israel face political consequences. Those who refuse to face political attacks and APIAC-funded candidates running against them

On October 7th, 2023, Hamas led an assault on the nation of Israel. This attack didn’t happen in a vacuum. In the words of former President John F. Kennedy, “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable.” Israel could have taken the October 7th attack as a wake-up call to the nation’s false sense of security and moved towards peace and the creation of a two-state solution. Instead, the Netanyahu regime swung in the opposite. Instead of seeking justice, the state of Israel sought vengeance.

In the past six months, IDF forces have killed over 30,000 Palestinians and displaced over a million people. IDF forces block aid and rescue organizations, hindering the world’s ability to assess the situation honestly and causing fears that the death toll is much, much higher. Various news sources and accounts via on-the-ground journalists and social media paint a grim picture in both Gaza and the West Bank. Israeli settlers have used the October 7th to expand even further into the West and kill and imprison those who resist.

In Gaza, the situation is even more dire as countless millions risk death and starvation. The survivors will face the loss of friends and family, leading to collective PTSD and a disturbed state of mind. Nations across the globe have condemned Israel for its response and continued violence against the people of Palestine. The Global South, led by South Africa, has already made a case in the World Court that Israel is committing war crimes and genocide. Yet, the West had stood lock in step with the nation of Israel, claiming it has a right to defend itself against Hamas. Leaders in Israel claimed that they’re stopping Hamas and that all the citizens of Gaza are Hamas fighters. Despite the fact that over half the population of Gaza are children under the age of eighteen. It’s a lie because children aren’t soldiers.

Enter President Joe Biden, a man with access to the bully pulpit who signs the checks that go to Israel. The man is a self-proclaimed Zionist and has never met a war he didn’t like to root for during his fifty-plus-year political career. He only recently condemned Israel when one of their many bombing campaigns killed Western aid workers in the Gaza Strip

Biden’s condemnation rings hollow when the United States still supplies bombs and weapons funded by the American Taxpayer to Israel to maim, murder, and imprison men, women, and children of Palestine. The IDF and Netanyahu regime will claim that its goal is to end Hamas and prevent another attack. But anyone with any knowledge of military history knows Israel’s play is to make Gaza so bleak that the remaining survivors flee to their neighbors in the surrounding Middle Eastern nations.

Both liberal and conservative politicians and a critical mass of their voters stand with Israel and its continued genocide as long as the victims are brown and poor. Biden can stop funding Israel’s war machine with the United States taxpayer dollars. He can call for a ceasefire and force the IDF to let in aid workers to care for the people of Palestine. He can broker a peace deal between the Palestinians and Israelis to put an end to years of senseless violence and move us to a more peaceful world. But no, Biden is pushing us towards a global World War as the West continues to back the belligerent nation of Israel, which has attacked over 16 nation-states since October 7th, 2023.

The people of the U.S. and the world stand against genocide. Yet, our world leaders are allowing it to happen in Sudan, the Congo, and Gaza. With the U.S. election looming in November 2024, President Joe Biden has failed domestically and internationally.

Stateside, Americans are dealing with runaway inflation, increased poverty, and soaring cost of living that’s turned the American Dream into a living nightmare with no end in sight as countless fellow citizens sleep under bridges and park benches. The United States government’s priority is in the funding of conflicts in both Israel and Ukraine. Hundreds of billions of dollars poured into death and destruction while the least amongst suffer the most. However, the Military Industrial Complex always wins no matter what con man sits in the White House.

They’ll claim that this keeps Americans safe. But safety means nothing for a family sleeping in their car or a child in Gaza who just watched IDF soldiers mow down his family in a hail of bullets. Joe Biden and the Democrat’s only caveat is that they’re not Trump. But claiming genocide under Trump will be worse is no saving grace for the people of Gaza. No doubt, the Republicans will continue to ignore the plight of millions of needy Americans and continue allowing Israel to genocide an entire group of people.

“Republicans bad” doesn’t take away that this is happening under the watch of the Democrats and Joe Biden. The U.S. voter’s options in November are bleak: vote for a senile war criminal or a senile war criminal who pays over 100k in hush money to sex workers. The Michigan primary has shown that people recognize Biden’s failure. Young people are seeing the violence in Gaza in real time on TikTok and IG from their phones and tablets. The oldest Millennials have reached the age of 40, realizing that retirement is entirely out of reach while we again witness the worst parts of history repeat itself; this time, it’s genocide. In a just world, President Biden would have done everything in his immense power to prevent the violence in Gaza. I’m thankful to the millions across the globe who’ve stood with the people of Palestine against this unnecessary violence. The blood of 30,000 Palestinians is on Joe Biden’s hands.

Signed,

A Veteran for Peace
