The Great White Claw Rebellion of 2021

On January 6th, 2021, a group of armed Trump loyalists in league with the Far-Right and Law Enforcement stormed the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. Many in the media and social media have dubbed this as the ‘darkest day’ in U.S. history. I guess those same people have never read a history book or are utterly full of shit. The same right-wingers who have called the Cracker Barrel rioters ‘patriots”. Will, in the same breath claim that the Capitol Riot was the work of Anti-Fascists and Black Lives Matter, a bald-faced lie! But we live in a post-Fake News era.

The fallout from the MAGA idiot’s coup has been quick. Sure, Trump and his minions weren’t successful. Still, they laid the foundation for future authoritarian presidents to use similar or even more cunning tactics to remain in power. But the blowback has been swift. The Orange One has been banned from his favorite social media site, Twitter (I say ten years too late, but liberals will hail it as a victory anyway). Arrests have slowly been made on those who participated in this uprising to keep in power one of the most dangerous and ignorant presidents in modern history. Some arrested are claiming that now white people are being treated like Jewish people during Nazi Germany. (I told you we live in a freakshow.) The media has been freaking out nonstop, all in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. With new COVID19 variants dropping every other month like iPhones. During their breach, the rioters didn’t practice social distancing or mask-wearing, so it was probably a super-spreading event. Oh, joy!

The media and politicians have been quick to label these Trump Loyalists “domestic terrorists‘. In a true and fair democracy, I’d have no problem with this label for the NIMBY brigade that stormed the Capitol building on January 6th. But this is the United States. We all know that our elected officials will roll out a Patriot Act 2.0 that will further infringe upon everyday citizens’ rights. What happens when the state can label any legit form of protest as domestic terrorism? It’s also concerning the power that social media companies have to silence those they deem inciting violence.

I’m no Trump apologist, and he still has the bully pulpit and a propaganda station known as Faux News Network to spew his poison. The worry is that everyday activists can be silenced from these platforms for speaking out on politics, harmful foreign or domestic government policies, and other hot-button political topics. Governments need to be held accountable and so do private companies that serve the public at large. (History has shown that corporations are never benevolent actors). The U.S. has plenty of laws on the books to extend justice to those that stormed the gates at the beginning of January 2021. These new proposed laws could be used to target and silence the voices of leftists, activists, labor organizers, and anyone else they can deem as a ‘domestic terrorist.’ Don’t believe me, just Google or Bing “COINTELPRO.”

Now many on social media and in the news media say this was an embarrassing and tragic day for democracy. But this is the United States being the United States. This wasn’t the first time open, and armed white supremacists marched on the nation’s capital. Hell, in the 1920s, the Klu Klux Klan marched on D.C. Their ranks swelled in the 1920s, thanks to Hollywood’s first major film production, the racist propaganda movie known as Birth of a Nation. Almost a century later, the descendants of those white nationalists have returned to take ‘their’ country back. These are not poor and down-trodden white bigots or racist sympathizers poor rural hicktowns. These are people from the business and professional classes. Teachers, business owners, failed actors, therapists, firefighters, lawyers, cops, and military veterans, Hell, one woman took her own private jet to the Trump March.

This is karma, and they say Karma is a bitch. The United States has a history of supporting far-right reactionary coups worldwide on the continents of Asia, Africa, and South America. Countries like Haiti, Iran, Chile, Bolivia, Mexico, Argentina, Iraq, Libya, and Vietnam, to name a few. So, January 6th was, as Malcolm X once said, “The Chickens Coming Home to Roost.”

American exceptionalism has made citizens immune to the realities that many people across the globe deal with. The United States is the greatest threat to global stability and peace today. On January 6th, the United States finally got a small taste of its own medicine. In my opinion, it’s the fall of Rome, and the U.S. empire is in decline due to unchecked disaster capitalism which has finally come home. Masses of people in this country are going hungry. Children are still in cages on our Southern border after decades of destabilizing nations in Central and South America. But yet, still, this nation allocates trillions for warfare and national security.

Sadly, this experiment of Democracy could have been revolutionary and world-changing. Yet, it was squandered due to the nation’s inability to confront its legacy of white supremacy. So a nation that was founded upon white supremacy and genocide will now be destroyed by it. So the chickens have come home to roost.
